Landslides, floods and snowfall: winter storm spoils Americans' holiday weekend
A series of storms caused by the 'atmospheric river', with the approach of the holiday week, threatens Americans with landslides, floods, heavy snow and destructive winds on the west coast, writes ABC News.
Washington and Oregon coastlines are threatened by floods from Friday through Sunday morning. In eastern Washington and Oregon, the highest rainfall is expected - up to 5 inches (12,7 cm).

By Saturday, heavy rain will move to the northernmost part of California, and by Sunday - to San Francisco and Los Angeles.
In Northern California, 2 to 3 inches (5,08–7,6 cm) of rain can fall, and in Southern California, about 1 inch (2,54 cm).
In the mountains there is a possibility of avalanches in cascades - several feet of snow are possible there, as the local population has been warned about.

By the holiday weekend, another storm will set its sights on the south of the country.
The storm will begin from Friday evening to Saturday on the west coast of the Gulf of Mexico and on Sunday will move east, leading to heavy rains from Texas to Florida, to all states of the Gulf of Mexico.
North Florida, Georgia and South Carolina will be hit hardest. Flood risk remains.

Some areas may cover 3 to 5 inches (7,62-12,7 cm) of rain by the time of the storm next week.
By Christmas, most of the south of the country will warm up. According to forecasts, at Christmas in Florida and parts of Texas the temperature will reach 70 degrees Fahrenheit (+21 Celsius), and from Oklahoma to Carolina - up to 60 Fahrenheit (+15,5 Celsius) and from southern Missouri to Virginia to 50 Fahrenheit (+10 Celsius).
The Northeast and Midwest - from Kansas to southern Michigan - are also thawing, and Christmas temperatures are projected at around 40 degrees Fahrenheit (+4,4 Celsius)
