Achieving the Ukrainian immigrant has become the theme of the official White House Christmas decoration

The White House History Association has chosen the Sikorsky N-34 helicopter as the official Christmas tree decoration this year for the main US presidential tree.

The decoration honors President Dwight Eisenhower, who was the first to decide to use helicopters to transport top government officials, writes “Voice of America«.

In the summer of 1957, President Eisenhower spent his vacation in Rhode Island when the news came that he should return to the American capital.

Instead of using the presidential yacht, the aide advised the president to use a Marine helicopter. The President flew in a Sikorsky helicopter to the US Navy air station, from where the presidential plane took him to Washington. The success of the first flight proved that these helicopters can land and depart from the southern lawn of the White House, and since then, US presidents have flown to the presidential plane precisely by helicopter.

In December 1959, President Eisenhower made its first overseas flight on a Sikorsky S-58 helicopter, according to Lockheed Martin.

President Eisenhower wrote a personal letter of thanks to Igor Sikorsky on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the VS300 helicopter in the United States.

“You may know that in recent years I have started using helicopters. For my purposes they are invaluable. “I am also continually amazed by the stories of rescue missions where their unique capabilities have allowed them to operate with particular effectiveness...saving lives that would otherwise be lost,” the letter reads.
