A seven-year-old boy died after being stung by a scorpion hiding in his shoe: the poison caused 7 heart attacks in the child

A seven-year-old boy from Brazil, Luis Miguel Furtado Barbosa, suffered seven heart attacks when he was stung by one of the world's most dangerous scorpions while putting on his shoes, reports Independent.

The child died on October 25 in a hospital, two days after he was stung by a Brazilian yellow scorpion or Tityus serrulatus, a species with an extremely toxic venom that has caused thousands of deaths in the country.

But Luis Miguel, who was looking forward to adventure because he loved the water, put on his boot when he was stung by a scorpion, his mother Angelita Proenza Furtado told the Brazilian newspaper O Globo.

“As soon as he put on the boot, he screamed in pain. Since we didn't find what stung him, we kept looking. But his leg began to turn red, and he said that the pain was getting worse, ”she said. They frantically searched the house to find out what had bitten the boy.

About five minutes after the boy was stung, Proenza Furtado and her husband Eraldo Barbosa saw the terrifying yellow scorpion and took their son to Hospital das Clínicas de Botucatu, where an antidote for scorpions would be available.

Miguelzinho (that's the boy's affectionate nickname) suffered four cardiac arrests in the pediatric ward of the hospital.

Doctors told the parents that the damage could not be repaired. Proenza Furtado said she had lost all hope for his recovery. “When I entered the room to see him after what had happened, I put my hand on his head and with all my heart I gave him to his true owner. That’s what I said: “Lord, he’s yours! Take him with you and take care of him. “Your will be done, not mine,” she recalls.

But the next day the boy's condition seemed to improve when he opened his eyes and tried to speak to her.

However, Luis Miguel again had to be sedated as he was very agitated. She and her husband fell to their knees in the hospital to pray for their son's health.

On October 25, the boy suffered three more cardiac arrests, after which his condition began to deteriorate, leading to his death on the same day.

Proenza Furtado said it was "the worst moment of my life".

Remembering her son on the day of preparation for the campaign, the mother said: “He, as usual, was very worried. He seemed to want to live everything he had to live in one day. Today I understand that he seemed to be in a hurry to live.

Anhembi City Council declared three days of official mourning for the boy's death and posted a message of condolence on Instagram.

Deaths from scorpion stings are not uncommon in Brazil. The number of people stung by deadly yellow scorpions has increased tenfold since 2000, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health. From 12 accidents in 000, the number of accidents increased to 2000 in 156.

The species is parthenogenetic, meaning the female can give birth without a male partner, producing up to 30 copies of herself several times a year.

The scorpion population has grown over the years. The lurking predator has been found in places like supermarkets, homes, schools, and even the Brazilian Senate.
