San Francisco's most famous skyscraper self-destructs

This is due to the fact that apartments in the building cost from $ 1,6 to $ 10 million, and their owners are well-known actors and businessmen who don’t want to lose their real estate investments so easily.

Since its construction in 2008, the 58-floor building, according to independent experts, has sunk by 16 inches (30,5 cm). It also tilted two inches (5 cm) to the northwest side.

“It's a significant slope, and it's concerning,” said Professor Greg Deierlein of Stanford University, who was invited to San Francisco to evaluate the designs of several new skyscrapers.

He noted that the 88-story Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia, which were the world's tallest buildings when they opened in 1998, have sank less than 3 inches and tilted less than half an inch in their 18 years of existence.

For the first time, the problem was noticed in 2010 year, already then the slope of the skyscraper, the construction of which cost the city $ 350 million, was 10 inches (about 25 cm). It was already 4 inches more than the builders of the building, predicting the draft for the entire period of its existence.

The building has continued to settle since then - reports show that subsidence has been uneven since 2009, raising further concerns.

The owners of the building intend to begin consultations with engineers in order to find an opportunity to stop the slump and roll of the skyscraper.
