The most photographed places of Manhattan among tourists and locals

New Yorkers love to think that they do not belong to the huge masses of tourists who are addicted to a monopod (selfie stick).

However research CUNY Graduate Center shows the opposite.

Researchers analyzed 7,5 of millions of photos with “Manhattan” geotagging on social networks Instagram and Facebook to find out which part of this island in New York is the most photographed.

Times Square ranks first among both tourists and city dwellers. This is not surprising, but it still undermines the confidence of New Yorkers that they do not like to be photographed in their city and post photos on the social network.

Studies have shown that half of New Yorkers are photographed on only one-fifth (20%) of Manhattan.

At the same time, the majority of tourists photograph all 12% of the island, without visiting the rest of it.

Along with Times Square, guests and residents share photos of Rockefeller Center.

There are almost no photos of upper Manhattan posted on social networks—no one takes anything above 110th Street.
