Saakashvili was appointed governor of the Odessa region
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko officially announced on the appointment of the former president of Georgia Michael Saakashvili governor of the Odessa region.
A proposal to appoint Saakashvili as governor of the Odessa region for consideration by the president was made by the government. At the same time, it was reported that Poroshenko himself asked the ministers to do this.
Earlier on the website of the Ukrainian president appeared a decree on granting Ukrainian citizenship to Saakashvili. This document does not specify whether he refused Georgian citizenship, as required by Ukrainian laws.
Earlier, Poroshenko appointed Saakashvili head of the advisory council on reforms in Ukraine, consisting mainly of foreigners. The main task of the council is to make proposals and recommendations for the implementation of reforms based on international experience.
At the same time Poroshenko has already appointed foreigners and to major positions in the system of executive power. In particular, in December last year, Lithuanian Aivaras Abromavičius became the Minister of Economic Development of the country, who specifically changed his citizenship to Ukrainian.
