'Russians are going to heaven, the rest will just die': social networks reacted violently to Putin's speech

The day before, at a meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that in the event of nuclear aggression from another state, Russians “will go to heaven like martyrs,” and the attackers “will simply die,” writes BBC Russian Service.

“The aggressor must know: retribution is inevitable, he will be destroyed anyway. And we, as victims of aggression, we, as martyrs, will go to heaven, and they will simply die. Because they won’t even have time to repent,” the president said.

After this phrase in the hall there was laughter.

Putin's words provoked a strong reaction from users of social networks and became the reason for a lot of jokes.

Note that Putin’s annual speech at the Valdai Forum was distinguished by unprecedented rhetoric, writes Voice of America. The theme of the forum was “The world in which we will live: stability and development in the 21st century”. Among other things, Putin said that US President Donald Trump is ready to listen to him and is committed to improving relations between the two countries.

“In my opinion, the current president (the United States) is set on stabilizing and leveling Russian-American relations,” Putin said, adding that “we will see how the situation will develop further.”

He also said that the Islamic State terrorist group began to execute hostages in Syria, including American and European citizens.

“They put forward ultimatums, certain requirements and warned that if these ultimatums are not fulfilled, they will shoot ten people every day,” Putin said at a forum in Sochi, without specifying what exactly the requirements are. “The day before yesterday, ten people were shot and executed.”

In turn, the US government denied Putin’s assertions. In the US, they noted that the attack on the camp did take place, the rest of the statements of the Russian leader are not under evidence.

Let us remember that the Valdai Forum was founded as a discussion club more than ten years ago. Over the years, the format of the meetings has changed greatly - instead of discussions of a narrow circle of experts with whom Putin sat at a long table, Valdai turned into something like a presidential press conference.

In addition, according to the observations of experts, if initially the forum was addressed more likely to a Western audience, this year Putin devoted almost all of his speech to internal issues.
