Russia bans the transit of poultry products from the United States
Russia 10 June prohibits the transit of live poultry, poultry meat and other poultry products from the United States.
“This decision is due to the fact that bird flu is spreading in the United States, and we have facts that American products that were in transit to other countries were returned to our market,” said the head of the service, Sergei Dankvert, noting that in this way unscrupulous suppliers circumvented the Russian food embargo.
Earlier, the Rosselkhoznadzor reported on the discovery of American chicken meat in the Siberian regions, where it came from Kazakhstan. According to Dankvert, his department has not yet been able to resolve this problem with neighboring countries.
The transit ban is introduced before there is a way out of this situation.
Dankvert also said that the Rosselkhoznadzor does not rule out a ban on the transit through Russia of fish and fish products from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
