Russia will close the sky for Ukrainian airlines
The Russian Ministry of Transport has prohibited Ukrainian airlines from flying over Russian territory from October 25, the ministry’s press service reports.
It is reported that the agency has already asked Rosaviation to send a notification of the decision to Ukrainian airlines.
The ministry explained that they took such a step on the instructions of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. He demanded to retaliate against the Ukrainian air carriers after Kiev September 16 imposed sanctions against Russia in connection with the annexation of Crimea and its support for the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk “people’s republics” and banned flights of Russian companies.
Last week, the Ukrainian government announced a decision ban fly to the country by Russian airlines, including Aeroflot, Transaero and S7.
It was also decided to prohibit Russian aircraft from making transit flights through the airspace of Ukraine if they are carrying military cargo.
