Russia has appointed a new ambassador to the United States, who is under sanctions because of the Crimea and Donbass
Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Anatoly Antonov as Russian ambassador to the United States. According to the message on Kremlin sitehe will also become a permanent observer of the Russian Federation to the United Nations in Washington (part-time).
Last year Antonov worked Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; five was Russia's Deputy Minister of Harrow.
In 2004 — 2011 - Director of the Department of Security and Disarmament Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. He led Russian delegations at international negotiations on various military-political issues, including negotiations with the United States on the further limitation of strategic offensive weapons and missile defense, on multilateral export control mechanisms.
Repeatedly participated in the sessions of the UN General Assembly. The total work experience of Anatoly Antonov in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Soviet Union and Russia is more than 30 years.
In connection with the annexation of Crimea and Russia's participation in the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Antonov entered the sanctions lists of the European Union and Canada in February 2015, and in the sanctions list of Ukraine since September 2015.
The previous Russian ambassador to the United States was Sergey Kislyak. In the US, its activities are considered by many experts to be compromised by links with the current Donald Trump administration.
Recall that today, 21 August, the United States in response to the reduction in the number of employees of the diplomatic mission in Russia accepted the decision from 23 August to suspend the procedure for issuing non-immigrant visas throughout Russia.
