Russia and France agreed on the amount of the penalty for the Mistral

Russia and France have tentatively agreed on the amount of the penalty for non-delivery of Mistrals; the next stage of consultations will take place in July, a source in the field of military-technical cooperation told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

One of the last meetings, which took place in May of this year, ended without result.

“During June, we managed to reach a previously agreed upon decision on both sides on the amount of compensation France would pay to Russia for the non-delivery of the Mistrals. Preliminary, because the decision must now be approved by the governments of the two countries,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

He also said that consultations are currently underway actively. “It was thanks to them that the parties reached a pre-agreed decision on the amount of payment. Now the delegations are discussing the technical procedure for paying compensation,” the source said.

According to him, the next stage of consultations will take place in July.

Earlier in the media published information that, allegedly, Paris is ready to return the order of 800 million euros, Moscow insisted on 1,1 billion euros.

The contract for the construction of two Mistral-type helicopter carriers was concluded in 2011.

It was assumed that the first ship will be transferred to Russia in November 2014 of the year. However, in the summer of 2014, French President Francois Hollande said that against the background of the crisis in Ukraine "he sees no conditions" for the transfer of this ship to Russia.

The amount of the contract for the construction of two "Mistral", as reported, was 1,2 billion euros. Russia paid in the amount of 840 million euros.
