Aeroflot has tightened the rules for carrying hand luggage

The Russian airline Aeroflot since 15 February 2018 of the year tightens the rules for controlling the carry-on of hand luggage. According to press service of the company, the control will be in effect throughout the duration of the passage of passengers before the flight.

“A special control system for the carriage of hand luggage is being introduced due to the increasing number of complaints from passengers about the lack of space to accommodate it in the aircraft cabin. The size of overhead bins is set by aircraft manufacturers. Placing hand luggage on the shelf in violation of established standards deprives other passengers of the opportunity to conveniently and safely place their belongings in the aircraft cabin,” the airline said in a press release.

According to the new rules, a passenger must present at check-in all baggage, hand luggage, as well as items carried at no extra charge in excess of the free baggage allowance and hand luggage. Employees of the company will check passengers' carry-on baggage for compliance with airline regulations in terms of size, weight and number of seats.

If the hand baggage does not meet the standards, then the passenger will have to hand it in the baggage. If in this case the permitted free baggage allowance is exceeded, the passenger will have to pay for carry-on baggage.

A passenger may refuse to pay for his baggage, but then the airline has the right not to allow the passenger to board.

Aeroflot emphasizes that it does not change the norms of hand baggage allowance, but only enhances control over their observance.
