A luxury hotel in the east side simultaneously accepts homeless
The hotel on the upper east side billed the city authorities of New York for rooms that still have dozens of homeless people. Although Mayor Bill de Blasio was about to put an end to this practice after a triple murder on Staten Island.
Assemblywoman spokeswoman Linda Rosenthal assured that homeless families with children were accommodated in rooms at the Excelsior Hote hotel. A total of over 40 people live in the hotel.
The hotel on 81 Street has luxury apartments for which guests pay $ 200-300 per night.
Residents of nearby houses and guests are not enthusiastic about this practice and consider it dangerous.
"I'm a little concerned, but not as much as my parents, who also live here," said Julia Delefanti, who lives nearby.
One guest said: “Why are you putting homeless people in a hotel when you need to improve living conditions in shelters?”
The Homeless Aid Department considers all fears to be groundless.
The city authorities did not admit how much they pay for temporary asylum.
