Delta flight delayed for 4 hours due to a huge swarm of bees that clung to the wing of the plane
On May 3, a Delta Air Lines flight was delayed by several hours due to a swarm of bees gathering on the wing of the plane. In this regard, the airline had to postpone the flight while experts tried to get the insects to fly away. Writes about it CBS News.
The flight was originally scheduled to leave Houston, Texas at 12:25 p.m. for Atlanta, Georgia, but was delayed until around 16:30 p.m. due to a swarm of bees.
“Believe it or not, Delta Flight 1682 from Houston Bush to Atlanta was delayed this afternoon after a friendly swarm of bees apparently wanted to talk about our aircraft's wings. Without a doubt, they wanted to share the latest data on flight conditions,” a Delta spokesman said jokingly over the situation.

One of the passengers on the flight tweeted about the event in great detail, from the initial discovery of the bees to the decision to call a beekeeper to remove the insects.
“My flight from Houston is delayed because bees have gathered on the tip of one of my wings,” wrote Anjali Enjeti, a journalist and author. “We won’t be allowed on board until the bees are removed.”
“However, the beekeeper was never called because they are not allowed to touch the plane, and pest control was not allowed to spray the plane,” Enjeti explained. “It would be a big highlight in my life to see a beekeeper cleaning an airplane wing.”
She later noted that the airline was trying to release exhaust on the swarm. “The bees were not impressed,” she stated.

Anjety noted that some passengers were annoyed by the delay due to the bees.
“Wish you could hear people trying to explain why our flight is delayed,” she tweeted.

But, according to a spokesman, the bees flew away as the plane pulled away from the gate with no passengers on board.
“As soon as the engine of our plane started, the bees flew away. All Delta had to do was start the plane,” Anjety said.
Such clusters of bees are quite rare. This has happened before, for example, on board an American Airlines plane that took off from Miami in 2017. Then the insects settled on the cockpit window of an Air India plane in 2019.
