Drunk Russian sailor crashed a British ship at full speed

The Russian sailor, who was drunk, ran aground off the coast of Scotland, the British cargo ship Lisblin Seaweek.

This conclusion was reached by the Maritime Accident Investigation Unit, which clarified the circumstances of the shipwreck that occurred at the beginning of 2015.

The dry cargo ship Lisblin SeaWay with deadweight 7 thousand tons stranded at full speed, about 25 tons of fuel spilled into the sea. The ship had to be sent for scrap.

As the investigation established, the 36-year-old sailor from Russia had a telephone conversation during the watch, “giving him unpleasant emotions”, after which he drank 0,5 liters of rum.

Because of the consequences of alcohol consumption, the sailor could not make a decision on the course adjustment of the vessel on time, and the alarm system, which was supposed to warn other crew members about the critical situation, was turned off at the time of the crash.

The investigation also revealed a low level of navigational training of the Lisblin Seafarers and the lack of proper control over the actions of the crew.

What punishment was applied to a sailor who stranded a cargo ship was stranded was not specified.
