Putin explained the support of Ukraine to the USA by the desire to “prevent the re-establishment of the USSR
The position of the United States and other Western countries towards Ukraine is an attempt to prevent the re-establishment of the Soviet Union.
This opinion was expressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with Vladimir Solovyov’s documentary “World Order”, writes “RBC.
“As for Ukraine and the post-Soviet space in general, I’m generally convinced that the position of our Western partners, European and American, is not connected with the protection of Ukraine’s interests, but is connected with an attempt to prevent the re-establishment of the Soviet Union, and no one wants to believe that we have there is no goal to recreate the Soviet Union, ”Putin said. According to him, the likelihood of "combining efforts" of Ukraine and Russia in economic terms and the transformation of these countries into strong players on the world market "does not allow the leaders of the Western countries to sleep peacefully."
“I think the main task is to prevent this joint effort. After all, it is not a secret that [Western countries] did everything to prevent the creation of a Common Economic Space, because they still did not want to talk even with the Eurasian Economic Union as a full-fledged participant in international life. For some reason, the European Union can be created, but the Eurasian Union cannot be, ”the head of Russia noted.
Putin added that a visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU is unprofitable for Kiev, which had to accept unfavorable, in the opinion of the head of the Kremlin, conditions of the West.
