The US Embassy urged Americans to leave Ukraine in any way possible

The United States urged Americans not to visit Ukraine, and those who are already there to leave the country as soon as possible by any possible means of transport. This is mentioned on page of the US Embassy in Ukraine.

“The security situation throughout Ukraine remains violent and unpredictable due to the ongoing Russian invasion, active hostilities in the country and uncertain security conditions. The U.S. Embassy urges U.S. citizens not to enter Ukraine and those in Ukraine to immediately leave the country using privately available ground transportation options if it is safe to do so,” the department said in a statement.

In addition, the embassy urged to avoid mass gatherings and organized events, as they can become a target for the Russian military anywhere in Ukraine.

The department recalled what to do in the event of a bombing:

• if you hear a loud explosion or sirens go off, seek cover immediately;
• if you are in a house or building, go to the lowest level of the structure with the fewest external walls, windows and openings; close all doors and sit near an inner wall, away from windows and openings;
• if you are outdoors, immediately seek shelter in a sturdy structure; if this is not possible, lie down and cover your head with your hands;
• be aware that even if an incoming missile or drone is intercepted, falling debris poses a significant risk;
• after the attack, stay clear of any debris and follow the official instructions from the main news outlets.

All Americans in Ukraine are asked to remain vigilant.

“The security situation throughout Ukraine is extremely fragile and conditions could deteriorate without warning. U.S. citizens should remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness, the embassy said in a statement on its website. — Know the location of the nearest shelter or protected area. In the event of mortar or rocket attacks, follow the instructions of local authorities and immediately seek shelter. If you feel that your current location is no longer safe, you should carefully evaluate the potential risks associated with moving to another location."

What should Americans do in Ukraine:

• visit the US Embassy Kyiv webpage for the latest security warnings for US citizens.
• ensure that travel documents are valid and easily accessible;
• review your personal security plans and always have a contingency plan ready that is independent of US government assistance;
• enroll in the Department of State Traveler Registration Program (STEP). Enrolling in the STEP program allows you to receive the latest security updates and makes it easier for the US Embassy to contact you in an emergency;
• Check regularly for current travel advice on the State Department website. Read the information specifically for Ukraine.
