In Russia, a woman was killed after she was denied help by the police

In Orel, police refused to help a woman who was beaten by her ex-husband. Writes Meduza, the conflict between the former spouses occurred 17 November. 36-year-old Yana Savchuk had a fight with her former spouse: a man refused to give the keys to the apartment and pick up his things. Neighbors, according to Gazeta.ru, not for the first time became witnesses of their quarrels. During the last conflict, Savchuk called the police.

Natalya Bashkatova, the senior district representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Oryol, arrived on call. But the law enforcement officer did not intervene in the conflict. Yana Savchuk recorded the entire conversation on her phone, and the recording was published by Komsomolskaya Pravda. On the tape, Savchuk can be heard asking the police to intervene and complaining about death threats from her ex-husband. But in response, Major Bashkatova says that next time she will not come to help and will not interrogate anyone. “If you are killed, we will come and describe the corpse. Don’t worry,” says the police major.

It clarifies Газета.ру, the former spouse was previously detained for threats, beatings and damage to the property of Yana Savchuk. The man has already been tried. Two months ago, according to neighbors, he strangled beloved cat Yana Savchuk right in front of his eyes.

A few hours later, after the police refused to accept the statement, Yana Savchuk was hospitalized with serious injuries and died in hospital. Neighbors claim that the former husband beat her with feet in the yard.

The man tried to escape, but was detained. He has now been charged with causing grievous bodily harm. According to Meduza, the case may be reclassified as murder.

A criminal case has also been initiated against Major Natalya Bashkatova. “The best district police officer in Orel 2014,” writes Gazeta.Ru, “She has already been dismissed from the authorities, and is now being investigated.”
