'Send people to hell is wrong': the girl stopped the deportation of a man to Afghanistan

The girl who did not let the plane fly, on which the Afghan asylum seeker was to be deported from Sweden, could face up to 6 months of imprisonment and a fine for disobeying the requirements of the aircraft captain.

A group of 25 activists who fought against the deportation of asylum seekers from conflict zones, having learned about the deportation of two men to Afghanistan, bought one of their activists Elin Ersson a plane ticket on which they were to send men from Gothenburg to Turkey and from there to Kabul writes “Currently,".

Before taking off the plane, the girl refused to sit down at her place, demanding to remove the 52-year-old man from the flight. The whole action was broadcast on the social network Facebook.

“I don’t want a person’s life to be taken away just because you don’t want to miss your flight. I will not sit in the seat until the man is removed from the plane. I'm doing everything I can to save his life. As long as the passenger is standing, the plane cannot take off. “I’m not doing anything illegal,” the girl said, emphasizing that she would comply with the requests of the staff as soon as the man was removed from the plane.

According to Elin Ersson, a citizen of Turkey and several other passengers of the plane expressed support to her and the Afghan migrant. In a sign of solidarity with the activist in the tail of the cockpit, the local football team also rose from their seats and refused to sit down at the request of the flight attendants.

“I'm trying to change the rules of my country. I do not like them. Sending people to hell is wrong,” the girl said.

According to activists, the plane should have been two men: 52-year-old and 20-year-old immigrants from Afghanistan, whom the Swedish authorities refused asylum and intended to deport them. But in the end only one of them was put on board.

After some time, the flight attendants reported that the man will be removed from the flight. After he was taken out of the plane, the passengers applauded the girl.

Later, the police said that the man was still being deported, but did not specify the date of the procedure in the department.

Sweden's policies towards asylum seekers and immigration have become stricter in recent years due to the influx of refugees from conflict zones. Particularly harsh statements began to appear before the general elections in September, which are predicted to be won by the far-right Sweden Democrats party, which advocates for even stricter immigration laws.

According to official figures, since 2012, in Sweden, almost 400 thousands of people have sought asylum.

After a series of explosions in Afghanistan in the winter of 2018, in which more than 120 people died, Sweden suspended its deportations for several months. Despite protests by activists and the Afghan citizens themselves sentenced to deportation, the Swedish Migration Agency claims that it’s safe for those who have been denied asylum.
