Twitter founder Jack Dorsey received his first salary - just 140 cents
Co-founder of Twitter Inc. Jack Dorsey received his first salary after returning to the position of executive director four years ago: she made up 140 cents for the year.
This incredibly modest amount announced by 8 on April, according to the company's regulatory documentation, is equal to the initial limit of the number of characters that were allowed for one tweet shortly after the creation of the service, writes Bloomberg.
In 2017, the company lifted the restriction to increase user engagement.
During this time, Dorsey chose not to receive a salary, bonus or interest from Twitter stock. He said the move was a testament to his "commitment and belief in Twitter's long-term value creation potential."
The 140-character limit—a relic of a bygone technological era—was the maximum that mobile text messages could fit when the service launched in 2006, before the widespread adoption of smartphones.
At the end of 2017, the limit was increased to 280 characters. It is unclear whether Dorsey's salary will double.
True, most likely, Jack Dorsey himself is not worried about the possible increase in income. As notes Wikipedia, in the Forbes magazine ranking in 2015, the now 42-year-old Dorsey’s fortune was estimated at $2,7 billion, in 2018 - $3,1 billion, in 2019 - $5,1 billion.
