McAfee Associates Founder Goes for US President

The founder of McAfee Associates and the creator of the antivirus of the same name, American programmer John McAfee, announced his intention to fight for the presidency of the United States.

“Tomorrow, my aides will file the necessary paperwork to register me as a candidate (for the race for) President of the United States,” McAfee said in an email dated Sept. 7 to TPM.

“Within the next 48 hours we will refrain from commenting, and on Thursday I will go to New York, where I will officially announce on Fox News (about my joining the fight for the White House),” the message also says.

It is not yet known from which particular party the programmer intends to nominate his candidacy. On Monday, McAfee said that he could not “confirm the rumors” about his intention to run for the highest state post. “My assistants and I will make a decision within the next few days,” he noted.

McAfee, who is a rather eccentric figure, is known for his problems with the law. In April, the Belize police station in 2011, where he settled, detained the programmer for several hours due to suspicions about his involvement in the death of his neighbor, American Gregory Fall, who was shot dead on an island in the Caribbean. After interrogation, McAfee was released without charge. In 2012, he was arrested in Guatemala for illegally crossing the border, after which he was deported to the United States.

To date, more than two dozen politicians have already joined the struggle for the presidency of the United States. The pre-election congress of the Democratic Party is expected to be held in Philadelphia, Pa. 25-28 on July 2016. The Republican Party convention is scheduled for July 18-21 on July 2016 in Cleveland (Ohio). As a result of these events, official candidates from the parties in the presidential elections should be identified.
