ICE officer arrested for stealing personal data of immigrants
The head of the Field Office of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) in Seattle was detained on charges of stealing the personal data of seven people who participated in the ICE immigration processes, reports CNN.
The investigation suggests that Rafael Sanchez developed a plan to deceive several financial institutions, using stolen personal data to get money and property. He turned his fraudulent schemes for four years, from October 2013 to October 2017.
According to court documents, the man used the “personal information of seven people who came to the US at different stages of the immigration process to get money and property through filing false and fraudulent applications” to financial institutions. He has at least once sent a copy of the immigrant's passport and other information about him from ICE email to his account Yahoo.
There are accusations of fraud and identity theft against a man.
A source at ICE said that Sanchez no longer works in the department.
His lawyer Cassandra Strain refused to comment on the case before the court hearing on it, scheduled for February 15.
