Winners of The Art Newspaper Russia Award Announced

The laureates of the Contemporary Art Award The Art Newspaper Russia have been announced, the solemn award ceremony of which was held at the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall.

The State Hermitage Museum was recognized as the best museum for a number of projects, including the opening of the General Staff after the restoration, the holding of the European Biennale Manifesta 10 and the organization of the Francis Bacon exhibition.

The “Golden Age of the Russian Avant-Garde” project by Peter Greenaway and Saskia Boddeke, shown in the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall in the spring of 2014, became the “Exhibition of the Year”.

In the “Book of the Year” nomination, the award was presented to representatives of the joint publishing program of the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and Ad Marginem Publishing House.

In the nomination “Restoration of the Year”, the prize was awarded to a large-scale project for the restoration of the monument of ancient Russian painting - the restoration of the frescoes of Guriy Nikitin in the Transfiguration Cathedral of Suzdal.

Victor Vekselberg became the laureate in the nomination “Personal contribution”. Last year the Faberge Museum was opened to the public in the renovated Shuvalovsky Palace in St. Petersburg with funds from the Foundation for Linking Times, created by him. In addition, Vekselberg is one of the founders of the endowment fund of the Jewish Museum and Center for Tolerance in Moscow.

The Art Newspaper Russia Prize is awarded annually from 2013. It covers various areas of Russian art and celebrates the best projects and events, as well as patrons.
