Obama enlisted support in the Senate on Iran’s nuclear program
US President Barack Obama enlisted the support of 34 senators who spoke in favor of an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
The required 34 vote was guaranteed by the Democratic Senator from Maryland, Barbara Mikulski. According to her, a comprehensive action plan is the best way to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. However, Mikulski added, no deal can be perfect, especially when it comes to the Iranian regime.
Senators ’support for 34 gives Obama the opportunity to veto a resolution if Congress tries to block a deal with Iran. There are two independent senators among 34, and 32 are democrats.
July 14 in Vienna Iran and the “six” countries (USA, France, UK, Germany, China and Russia) reached an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions against Tehran. In the US, members of the Republican Party actively opposed the agreement, pointing to too many concessions to Iran.
