Obama will publish a plan to combat climate change

The White House on Monday will present the most detailed plan to tackle climate change in US history, US President Barack Obama said on his page in facebook.

The United States plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by thirty percent by the year 2030 compared to the year’s 2005.

Major measures to tackle climate change will include increased use of wind and solar energy, as well as other renewable energy sources.

Some representatives of the country's energy sector criticized the plan, saying that the president had declared war on coal, which is the source of one-third of all electricity produced in the United States.

It is expected that up to 25 states will raise legal objections to the proposed measures, and it is likely that the issue will be brought before the US Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, energy companies are gradually moving away from using coal to generate electricity and are increasingly turning to natural gas and renewable sources such as the sun and wind.

As a result, greenhouse gas emissions from US coal-fired power plants are decreasing. According to government data, from 2011 to 2013 year the reduction was thirteen percent.

In a number of states, however, emissions are still much higher than the national average, both in absolute terms and per capita, writes “Voice of America«.
