New York is gradually defeating coronavirus: which regions will quarantine as early as May 15
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said coronavirus hospital admissions and COVID-19 deaths have fallen to their lowest levels since mid-March, when the outbreak in New York was just beginning. Cuomo said that on Saturday, 207 people died, on Friday 226 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the state, writes CBS News.
43 of these deaths occurred in nursing homes. According to Cuomo, all employees of these institutions will now have to be tested for the presence of coronavirus infection twice a week. He also emphasized that if a nursing home cannot provide adequate care for patients with COVID-19, the facility should transfer the patient to a facility that can provide adequate care. If they cannot find such a facility, they should call the Department of Health to help them find the right facility.

Cuomo added that nursing homes cannot receive patients with COVID-19 after being discharged from the hospital until a coronavirus test confirms that they are no longer infected. Any nursing home that violates these rules will be denied a license.
Quarantine exit
According to the governors, some areas of the state may begin to remove quarantine from May 15. To do this, they must meet certain criteria, in particular, medical data should indicate that the spread of the virus in this area is under control, and that if the level of infections increases again, the regional medical system will be able to cope with the load.
According to the quarantine removal plan in New York, there are 7 criteria that a region must fulfill in order to start opening an economy:
- A decrease in the number of hospital admissions due to coronavirus within 14 days or less than 15 new hospital admissions per day over a three-day period.
- Reduced mortality from COVID-19 within 14 days or less than five deaths on average per day over a three-day period.
- The frequency of new hospitalizations is below 2 per 100 inhabitants (average for 000 days).
- At least 30% of the total number of hospital beds in the region is not occupied.
- At least 30% of hospital beds in intensive care units are free.
- Conducting a minimum of 30 tests for every 1000 inhabitants per month.
- In the region, at least 30 specialists work to track the contacts of coronavirus vectors for every 100 thousand inhabitants.
As of May 11, there are three regions that have met all seven requirements and can begin quarantine removal from May 15. These are Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley and South Thier.
The city of New York so far meets four of the seven criteria.
