Flooding in Texas: there are dead and wounded
Three people, including an 18-year-old mother and her two-year-old daughter, died in two unrelated drowning incidents in Fort Worth due to the fact that heavy rain caused real flooding on Saturday. In both cases, the victims were inside vehicles that were carried by the water.
The first incident occurred around noon on 820 Road near Wilburger Street, writes USA Today. A woman and a child were driving along a secondary highway when the flood caught up and carried their car to a depth of nine meters, said the head of the rescue battalion, James McAmis.
Diving brigades found a woman and a girl dead in the car. The family identified the victims as 18-year-old Jessica Romero and her 2-year-old daughter Lleyleni. To help the family, a Gofundme page was created.
According to officials, the second drowning occurred in the 4200 quarter of the South Cravens Road: the 70-year-old man’s car was also blown away by water. The water level was a few feet above the bridge on Cravens Road, and the flood carried the man’s car about 100 feet. The water was a few feet above the bridge on Cravens Road, and the flood carried a person’s car about 100 feet (30 meters) downstream.
Alex Juarez was driving behind a man when a car was carried away by a stream of water. Juarez called 911 and tried to help, but the rescuers could not find the car until the water receded.
“The car tried to cross the canal and the water just pushed it out of the way,” he said. “We could only see the roof of the car.”
The victim of the second incident has not yet been identified.
