The national payment card in Russia will be called “Mir”

The national payment card in Russia will be called "World". It was this name that won the competition, in which more than 40 thousands of people participated. The idea to use the brand "World" belongs to the user lentachka! from Udmurtia. The special prize of the competition was named Tatyana's “Falcon” from the Samara region.

It follows from the contest rules that the name was chosen on the basis of an open voting on the Internet - the jury of professionals only influenced the shortlist of the finalists.

In mid-May, it was reported that the “Empire” brand, which was chosen by 43% of respondents, wins by a large margin. "World" was in third place with six percent.

The national payment card is developed as part of the National Payment Card System. The creation of such a system was mentioned in the 1990s, but the project was launched only after a sharp deterioration in Russia's relations with Western countries in the 2014 year. By mid-May, half of Russian banks had already transferred processing Visa card transactions to the national system. Mastercard switched to processing internal transactions through NSPK by April.
