Washington Beauty Queen Stormy Keffeler gave up her rank.

The reason for the refusal was bringing the beauty to criminal responsibility for driving while intoxicated, writes ABC News.

In April 2015, the police detained Keffleler in Seattle for drunk driving, the level of alcohol in her blood was three times the permissible rate. The 23-year-old girl had to spend two days in jail, and at a court hearing in September she pleaded guilty and paid 1 196 dollars in fines.

When applying for the beauty pageant, Keffeler did not indicate that she had been convicted, and in October she became the owner of the Miss Washington title.

However, according to the rules of the competition, its participants should not be related to “any kind of illegal actions”. According to the organizers, they learned about the previous criminal record only 8 January.

The girl refused the crown, saying that she had no intention of hiding her criminal record, but acted on the advice of a lawyer.

“The questionnaire asked whether I had been convicted of a crime. And when I contacted my lawyer, he told me that it was a misdemeanor, not a crime,” the girl said.

However, Keffeler’s refusal of his title may be associated with another criminal episode in which she was involved: it is about the attack on Seattle Sounders player Marco Pappa.

In December, the police, arriving on a call to Papp's apartment, found there a bleeding football player, wounded with a knife in the stomach, and a beauty queen. Keffleler, according to a police source, then gave conflicting testimony that alerted the police and led to increased attention of investigators to the beauty.

Now the crown will go to Kelsey Schmidt, who won second place in the competition.
