Russian Ministry of Defense accused of fake photos
The Bellingcat research project accused the Russian Ministry of Defense of faking photographs that allegedly prove Ukraine’s involvement in the collapse of the Malaysian Boeing near Donetsk.
The Bellingcat participants analyzed two of the six satellite images that the Russian Defense Ministry presented at a special briefing 21 July 2014 of the year - four days after the Boeing crash. The ministry claimed that the photographs show the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces, including the batteries of Buk anti-aircraft missile systems.
One of the pictures shows the Ukrainian military unit north of Donetsk. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation dates this photo on July 17 of the year 2014. The Bellingcat participants concluded that the snapshot was actually taken from June 1 to June 18 of the year 2014. In addition, the photo was edited using Adobe Photoshop CS5.
In the second photo, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian Bukis were shot near the village of Zaroshchenskoye, Donetsk Region. The ministry also dates this photo on July 17 of the year 2014. Bellingcat, after analyzing the snapshot, found out that in fact it was taken before 15 July 2014. The photo was edited using Adobe Photoshop CS5.
