Mila Kunis spoke about the threats and humiliations for refusing to frank filming

Mila Kunis is one of the famous women trying to draw public attention to the problem of gender inequality. Today, the actress has published a large open letter on the APlus website, co-founded by Ashton Kutcher. In the letter, Mila not only spoke on sexism, but also spoke about the producer, who threatened to end her career for refusing to play half-naked for a men's magazine.

“You won’t find work in this city anymore,” the producer of one film in which I played a role answered me in response to my refusal to shoot candidly for a men’s magazine. I no longer want to force myself to make compromises that go against my interests and desires. “No one else will offer me a job in this city?” I was furious, angry at the injustice and bias, but for the first time in my entire career, I answered with a resounding “No.” And guess what? The end of the world has not come. The film did great at the box office, and I got a job in that city again, and again, and again.

According to Mila, women should not be afraid to express their own opinions for fear of losing ground under their feet - a good position, a stable salary, a position in society. It is necessary to speak, only then will this problem be solved.

Throughout my career, I have been insulted and sidelined many times, my fees have been cut, my creative proposals have been ignored. And every time I tried to justify these people: maybe they really know better; maybe they have more experience; maybe I missed something. I accustomed myself to the idea that if I want to be a successful woman in this industry, I must play by the male rules already established in this “club”. But the older I got and the longer I worked in this industry, the more clearly I realized that it was all bullshit! But what’s worse is that I was in some way contributing to the injustice that was happening.

These thoughts led to the fact that in due time Mila, with three female colleagues, created her own production company Orchard Farm Productions. Her work was successful, but Mile and the rest of the managers had to deal with a prejudiced attitude more than once.

Blind gender biases are instilled in us from many different angles. Including in the process of studying: men are the main figures in our history, we know the names of many luminaries of mathematics, other sciences, politicians, and most of them are male. We are simply inundated with stories of male superiority.

If this happened to me, then all the more it happens, and in a more aggressive form, with other women around the world. I am fortunate to reach the position where I can not make such compromises and stand firmly on my feet, I do not need to feel fear because of the loss of the opportunity to earn money on a piece of bread. I am also lucky that I can share my experience on this platform. I really hope that this will help other women to feel confident and not alone.
