Mayor of New York does not know what to do with the Russian oligarchs
Mayor de Blasio is concerned about the activity of Russian oligarchs, who are buying multi-million assets in the city, but cannot figure out how to stop them. He stated this in an interview with the publication BuzzFeed.
“What is happening in Russia has become very deeply disturbing in all directions. The worrying thing is that the oligarchs are people who basically stole the wealth of their country along with their government,” the New York mayor told the publication. The mayor's comments come as the housing crisis worsens.
As a result, the oligarchs became a problem for New York.
“They come here with a lot of dirty money and buy a lot of property here. I do not like it. I wish I had a specific law or approach to solving it. I haven't found it yet. But, of course, it’s sad,” he added.
The mayor said that any additional tax revenues that come to the treasury of the city from such transactions are not worth it.
