Medvedev proposed renaming Americano to “Rusiano”
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev joked by proposing to rename Americano coffee to “Rusiano”.
At the ceremony of signing agreements following a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, the head of government praised his colleagues from Belarus for “behaving extremely constructively.” In response, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said that oriental coffee helped him with this.
“He says give me an Americano. This doesn’t sound politically correct at all!” Medvedev said, addressing one of the participants in the council meeting, and proposed renaming the coffee.
“Rusiano,” the Russian prime minister found a new name for the drink.
In 2014, some cafes in Crimea changed the name of Americano coffee to Rossiyano and Crimean. And in one of the coffee machines the name of the “Americano” button was changed to “Russian”.
