A bear ran onto a ski slope in Lake Tahoe and almost crashed into a vacationer: the incident was caught on video

A skier nearly crashed into a black bear while skiing down the Ridge Run Trail at Heavenly Ski Resort in Tahoe, reports USAToday.

The video, taken by TikTok user Tao Feng @Tao7570, shows the bear running in front of the skier, narrowly avoiding a collision.

Feng said he was skiing on the slope around 11 a.m. on Dec. 9 when he encountered the bear. The animal ran out of the forest and crossed the slope between the skiers and snowboarders.

The skier said he didn't realize it was a bear until it was "too close."

Fortunately, no one collided with the animal, and the bear was reunited with its mother after running to the other side of the slope.

Feng said he was very lucky that he did not collide with the bear. He said he was relieved when the bear was reunited with its mother on the slope.

Bears are common

Heavenly Mountain Resort spokesman Cole Zimmerman said wildlife sightings in the area are common because the resort operates on national forest lands. However, he said the resort has proper safety protocols in place to ensure the safety of both animals and guests.

“We have a deep respect for the diverse species that inhabit the area in and around the resort,” Heavenly Mountain Resort said in a statement. “In situations where these animals are spotted, we have special protocols in place to ensure we prioritize the safety of our guests and the well-being of these animals.” This includes maintaining social distancing and promptly alerting our ski patrol and mountain safety when necessary.”

Zimmerman said the animals usually run away pretty quickly once they're spotted.

“Tahoe bears are pretty calm with people, and no one involved was harmed, including the bear,” Zimmerman said. “You know you're in Heavenly, where even the bears enjoy the views of Ridge Run!”
