The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations apologized for a selfie taken by two firefighters in front of the burning building of the Admiral shopping center in Kazan.

“The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations apologizes for the inappropriate behavior of two firefighters. The ministry categorically condemns this act,” the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations told TASS. The ministry noted that the personnel were warned about the inadmissibility of such defamatory actions.

At the same time, the department called it “wrong to judge by this at least stupid act the entire ministry, firefighters and rescuers, who honestly and at the risk of their lives perform their professional duty.”

“Firefighters rescued almost 700 people from the burning Admiral shopping center, and more than 10 victims were pulled out alive from the rubble,” recalled a department representative.

Scandalous selfie

A photograph of two firefighters in front of the burning Admiral was posted on social networks on March 13.

It was accompanied by the caption: “This is what firefighters did during the fire. I'm scared after this."

In turn, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for Tatarstan is conducting an internal investigation into this photo. “The employees who took the photographs have been identified. Based on the results of the inspection, a decision will be made to bring them to disciplinary liability,” Andrey Rodygin, head of the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Tatarstan, previously told TASS.
