A mother accidentally killed her 6-year-old daughter while relaxing on a lake in Arizona: the girl's leg was amputated with a boat propeller

On July 28, a 6-year-old girl was killed in a collision with her family's boat on a lake in Arizona. Boat propeller accidentally cut off her leg, reports USAToday.

Two families, 12 in total, have been on the wakeboarding boat since 7:26 am on July 11 at Lake Pleasant. At 6 am, one of the families called the police and said that their XNUMX-year-old daughter had been hit by a propeller.

Witnesses at the scene of the collision confirmed that the child's mother was driving the boat when "without the knowledge of the family, the child somehow fell into the water."

The child's father was in the water, holding onto a wakeboard, when he noticed an unidentified person nearby and swam towards the body. Soon after, the girl's parents realized that their child was in the water and that the propeller had cut off her leg.

Sergeant Joaquin Henriquez said other boatmen helped the family get the child to a jetty on the lake, where lifeguards provided assistance. Doctors later pronounced the child dead at a local hospital.

“The factors that could have led to this incident, to this tragedy, are the large number of people on the boat,” Enriquez said.

A preliminary investigation showed that the boat had all the necessary safety equipment, including life jackets and fire extinguishers.

According to Enriquez, the owners of the boat are also experienced yachtsmen. Henriquez said the group of people on the boat may not have "understood who was on the boat and who wasn't. Because at that time they were in different places, swimming, then riding a wakeboard, and then vice versa.”

Lake Pleasant Regional Park is a large open recreational area northwest of Phoenix. The lake is a popular recreation center for water sports, where people commonly go wakeboarding, boating, and kayaking.
