The US Congress passed the controversial law on the Keystone XL pipeline.
On Wednesday, February 11, the US Congress finally approved the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline to export Canadian oil, reports Agence France-Presse. Earlier, Barack Obama threatened to veto the laying of the pipeline.
In the House of Representatives, the decision was taken by 270 votes against 152. Thus, TransCanada received a blank check for the start of construction of Keystone XL.
“In fact, the case is closed. Keystone will give new jobs. Its construction does not harm the surrounding harm is safe. This will make our energy sector stronger, ”said Fred Upton, Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Trade, after the vote.
The laying of Keystone XL from the very beginning of the discussions has caused active resistance from environmentalists.
