The bill on the provision of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $ 1 billion was prepared by Republicans and Democrats in the US Congress.

The document provides for the use of these funds for the training of the Ukrainian military, as well as providing Kiev with defensive military weapons, various equipment for the Ukrainian army for up to September 30 of 2017.

Democratic Congressman Adam Smith told reporters that "Russia appears to have decided to return to the Cold War era, and that economic sanctions have not changed President Putin's plans at all."

According to observers, US President Barack Obama does not exclude the supply of American weapons to Ukraine, but so far refrains from such a decision, relying on a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian problem through the implementation of the Minsk agreements, which he said in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier.

At the same time, the White House statement on this matter says: “If Russia continues its aggressive actions in Ukraine, including sending troops, weapons, funding and support for the separatists, the price for this will increase for it.”

The Kremlin’s report on the conversation between the two presidents notes: “Putin gave a detailed assessment of the situation in south-east Ukraine with an emphasis on the latest Russian proposals, discussed, in particular, in the context of preparations for the planned meeting on February 11 in Minsk in the Normandy summit. format."
