When open schools, universities, offices and airports after Hurricane Irma

While Hurricane Irma is heading north, leaving behind destruction, Miami-Dade and Broward counties remain closed. In the coming days, schools and businesses will determine when they can reopen. Some of them have already reported the opening date.

Here is the updated list for now:

Schools

▪ Miami-Dade Public Schools will remain closed until further notice. Superintendent Alberto Carvalho wrote on Saturday that schools would remain closed "due to the uncertainty associated with evacuation and the inability to inspect / make repairs."

▪ Broward’s public schools and offices will remain closed until further notice. Updated information will be released after verification of all campuses.

▪ Monroe School District closed its schools in Wednesday, September 6 until further notice. Superintendent Mark Porter stated in Sunday: “Personal safety is our top priority at this time. Until then, we don't need to focus on anything else."

▪ Palm Beach Public Schools will be closed until Tuesday, 12 September. Updated information will be released after verification of all campuses.

▪ Archbishop Primary and Secondary Schools in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties will are closed Monday, 11 September and Tuesday, 12 September.

Universities

▪ The University of Miami announced the start of classes at Coral Gables in Monday, September 18.

▪ Florida International University is closed until further notice.

▪ Miami-Dade College closed at the beginning of the week and until further notice.

▪ Broward College campuses closed and classes canceled until further notice.

▪ University of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico closed Wednesday, 13 September. Students remaining on campus during a hurricane are housed in Eagle Hall in South Village.

▪ Lynn University classes are canceled until further notice.

▪ Florida State College Southwestern is closed until Wednesday, September 13.

Airports

▪ It is unclear when Miami International Airport will open again for flights.

▪ Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport closed no opening date.

▪ Key West International Airport is closed until further notice.

Hospitals / Clinics

▪ Clinical institutions Miami University UHealth closed on Monday, September 11 and Tuesday, September 12. His landlines remain open, but all operations are canceled on Monday and Tuesday. UHealth clinics at Walgreens are closed on Monday.

▪ Hospitals and emergency departments in Jackson remained open, while ambulatory and emergency medical facilities were closed.

▪ The emergency department of the Nicklaus Children's Hospital and the trauma center remain open. Emergency centers are closed until further notice.

Offices

▪ Miami-Dade offices will be closed on Monday, September 11.

▪ The Miami City Office will be closed until further notice.
