The world-famous opera singer Vasyl Slipak, who became a Ukrainian volunteer after the start of the war in the Donbass, was killed by a sniper in eastern Ukraine.
Vasily Slipak 19 lived and worked in France for years, but after the start of the war he went to the front as a volunteer in the Right Sector.
The death was reported by journalist Yury Butusov on his page in Facebook.
“Vasyl Slipak, a world-famous opera singer, who lived and worked in France for 19 years, sang at the Paris Opera, but with the onset of Russian aggression he left his European career and returned to defend his homeland, died at the front near Donetsk in the ranks of the Right Sector,” wrote He.
According to him, Slipak's call sign was Myth, short for Mephistopheles, a character in his favorite opera Faust.
Vasily Slipak is a world-famous opera singer, one of the most famous baritones, and has been awarded many vocal awards. For the aria “Toreador” he received the award “Best Male Performance” at the international festival of opera performers, held in Armel.
While working in France, he sang on such famous stages as the Paris Grand Opera, the Athenaeum, the Bastille Opera, and performed at the opera houses of Massy and Saint-Etienne, as well as at the Amphitheater 3000 in Lyon.
Later, the Ministry of Culture confirmed the fact of the death of Slipak and expressed condolences:

The frontman of the group “Okean Elzy” Svyatoslav Vakarchuk shared his thoughts on the death of the famous opera singer Vasily Slipak in Donbass.
About this singer wrote on his page on Twitter.
“I didn’t know Vasily Slipak personally. But now he is in my memory forever! He and his voice... Heroes don’t die!” the musician wrote.
