ICE arrested 12 foreign criminals in New York, four of them Russians

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in New York arrested 12 foreign criminals in New York and Westchester County. Of the 12 detainees, four are citizens of the Russian Federation, one is of Kazakhstan. This is stated in the message on the website ICE.

The Law Enforcement and Deportation (ERO) operation was completed on December 5, 2019. All persons arrested during this operation are considered fugitive aliens who are wanted for serious crimes abroad.

“Through this operation, we were able to arrest a dozen criminal aliens, individuals who fled their home countries to seek asylum in New York,” said Thomas R. Decker, ERO's New York office director. “Our country should not be a place where foreign criminals from other countries seek refuge from prosecution.”

The ICE also emphasized that despite the fact that politicians have created conditions that welcome criminals seeking asylum in the Big Apple, the service continues to focus on the arrest of those who want to face criminal prosecution abroad.

Among those arrested are citizens of Argentina, Kazakhstan, China, Colombia, Mexico, Russia, Chile and Japan. EPO deportation services made arrests in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Flushing, Forest Hills, Manhattan, New Rochelle, Ridgewood and Staten Island.

In particular, the following citizens were arrested:

• A 35-year-old Russian citizen, wanted by Russian law enforcement agencies on charges of manslaughter, has been arrested in Brooklyn.
• In Ridgewood, a 42-year-old Japanese national is wanted by Japanese law enforcement on charges of robbery and causing bodily harm.
• In Staten Island, a 52-year-old Mexican national is wanted by Mexican law enforcement on murder charges.
• In Flushing, a 46-year-old Chinese national wanted for fraud totaling more than 19 million Chinese yuan (approximately more than $2,6 million).
• In the Bronx, a 27-year-old Kazakh citizen was released from custody in New York along with a current inmate who was wanted by Kazakh law enforcement to serve a five-year sentence after being convicted of robbery.
• In Brooklyn, a 43-year-old Russian citizen is wanted by Russian law enforcement agencies for embezzling government funds totaling more than 76 million rubles (about $1 million).
• In Flushing, a 35-year-old Colombian national wanted by Spanish law enforcement on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering.
• In Manhattan, a 47-year-old Argentine national is wanted by Argentine law enforcement on charges of causing serious and minor bodily harm, leaving the victim permanently confined to a wheelchair.
• In Forest Hills, a 35-year-old Russian citizen wanted by Russian law enforcement on charges of massive theft by fraud.
• In Brooklyn, a 37-year-old Russian citizen wanted by Russian law enforcement on fraud charges.

All those arrested are currently being detained at the ICE pending a hearing before an immigration judge.
