A group of illegal immigrants tried to storm the border between Mexico and the United States
One of the largest crossings on the U.S.-Mexico border was forced to close on July 19 after a group of about 50 illegal immigrants tried to cross into the United States, federal officials said.

The goal of the immigrants, according to officials, was to organize a “wave” breach of the border, in which people storm border posts in groups consisting of several dozen people each, writes New York Post.
An attempt to break through to America occurred at the Farr-Reynosa International Bridge in Texas around 4 in the morning and led to a scuffle with agents of the US Customs and Border Protection Service.
“A group of 47 undocumented individuals attempted to enter the United States illegally in three stages,” the agency said in a statement.
“Ignoring the teams to stop, the group suddenly formed temporary barricades, bent metal pillars and damaged the ring fence wire attached to the border barrier.”

Several officers of the Customs and Border Protection Service were attacked during the riots, but nothing threatened their health or life. They reportedly used tear gas and pepper balls to stop the group.
At least 16 illegal immigrants were taken into custody by federal officials. The rest were taken by the Mexican authorities.
