US Department of State called the date of the introduction of new sanctions against Russia

The new US sanctions against Russia, imposed due to the poisoning of a former employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the country, Sergey Skrypal and his daughter Yulia in Britain, will take effect on August 27.

On this day, the decision on the imposition of sanctions will be officially published in the Federal Register, writes RIA News with reference to an unnamed representative of the US Department of State.

“The notice period required by law expired on August 22. We have signed the Federal Register notice that implements the sanctions and expect it to be published on August 27,” a US diplomatic official said.

Previously it was expected that the first package of US sanctions against Russia will come into force on August 22. However, on this day, no notice of them appeared on the official website of the US government.

Recall 8 August Washington announced new sanctions against the Kremlin due to Russia's use of chemical weapons in Salisbury. The first package of sanctions prohibits the delivery to Russia of dual-use goods. The second, tougher plan is to approve in November: it may affect lending to Russian legal entities, export and import of goods, and also lead to a decrease in the level of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Recall, the former GRU officer Sergey Skripal and his daughter Julia were found unconscious on a bench in Salisbury on March 4. They were taken to hospital in critical condition. The police found that they were poisoned nerve agent. About 20 people were poisoned, including the policeman who first visited the scene and the house of Skripal. In Russia, Skripal was convicted in 2006 for spying for British intelligence. In 2010, he was exchanged for Russian intelligence agents uncovered in the United States.

After investigating, Britain came to the conclusion that the nerve agent of the new generation of the group called “Rookie” was used for poisoning. Since no country other than Russia had access to this substance, London declared that Russia was most likely responsible for the attempt.

Since then, 17 countries, including the UK and the USA, have decided expelling 129 Russian diplomatsHowever, the US administration did not impose sanctions on Russia.
