Autumn is becoming more and more firmly established in its rights, and that means it's time to take an interest in pumpkins! There's a charming town in Northern California that takes pumpkin seriously. Residents call their city the pumpkin capital of the world - whether this is true is debatable, but this place can rightfully be called the pumpkin capital of America.

Every year a large pumpkin festival takes place at Half Moon Bay, tells Only in Your State. This event has become a landmark for Northern Californians who gather here in a fairyland where pumpkins turn into... anything! And when you consider all the different treats, costumes, competitions, and entertainment, this is a one-of-a-kind event that you won’t want to miss.

This year's The Half Moon Bay Art And Pumpkin Festival (Wikipedia calls it simply the Pumpkin Festival) will celebrate its 45 anniversary and will be held from 13 to 14 of October from 9: 00 to 17: 00. Two days will be filled with pumpkin-themed entertainment in which you will definitely want to take part.

But technically, the celebration begins on October 8, when the Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off takes place - this event is considered one of the most important among American and world farmers. During the competition, a jury selects the heaviest pumpkin in the world and rewards the farmer who grew it with a stunning cash prize of $30.

Last year, farmer Joel Holland ranked first with a giant pumpkin champion weighing 2,363 pounds (1071 kg). He also set a new American record, which completely crossed out the rest of the competition. It is expected that this year Holland will return to the festival with numerous pumpkin producers.

The grand prize pumpkin is the centerpiece of the festival, but there are plenty of other fun things to do in this incredible event. Entertainment will be provided throughout the festival, including live music from some of the Bay Area's top acts. Performances by local musicians and bluegrass bands, comedy performances, and marching bands will fill the city streets.

Of course, all of this delicious food and drink will be available for purchase—plenty of pumpkin treats are planned, including pies, pancakes, ice cream, cheesecakes, and even pumpkin mac and cheese to help you taste the season in all its diversity. Don't forget to try pumpkin jam or smoothie!

Within two days various competitions and events will be held. For example, you can try your hand at a cake contest. And do not forget to dress in carnival costumes on a pumpkin theme for a costume contest.
