Germany intends to pay compensation to Soviet prisoners of war
The German government plans to pay 10 million euros in compensation to four thousand former Soviet prisoners of war for their suffering in Nazi concentration camps during World War II.
Reportedly, these funds are provided for by amendments to the budget of Germany, approved by the Bundestag.
Every former prisoner of war will receive 2,5 thousand euros, as well as a cover letter in deference to the suffering that has been experienced.
German authorities call this "symbolic financial recognition."
It is estimated that 70 years after the end of World War II, out of 5,3, a million Soviet prisoners of war captured in 1941-1945 by German Nazis, about 4 thousand people survived. Each of them must receive a sum of thousands of euros in 2,5 in compensation for the suffering inflicted in captivity.
