Russian Consulate General in Seattle has already stopped receiving citizens

“In connection with the decision of the American authorities to close the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Seattle, the reception of citizens on passport and visa issues, as well as on citizenship and notary issues, will cease from March 26,” the message states. Earlier on Monday, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Seattle, Halit Aisin, said in a conversation with a TASS correspondent that the Consulate General, at the request of the American authorities, would cease operations by 17:00 local time on March 30 (03:00 Moscow time on March 31).

As a diplomatic source told TASS, due to the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Seattle, the boundaries of the consular districts served by the Russian Consulate General in the United States will change. “In the coming days there will be a redistribution of consular districts,” he noted. Within the consular district, which served the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Seattle, were the states of Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, Utah, as well as the island of Guam, American Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands. Other states in the continental United States belong to the consular districts that serve the consular section of the Russian Embassy in Washington, as well as the Russian Consulates General in New York and Houston (Texas).

On Monday, the US administration announced expulsion from the country 48 Russian diplomats and another 12 diplomatic staff of the Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. In addition, the consulate in Seattle (WA) will be closed. To this, the American authorities took a week. The reason for the expulsion was the poisoning in the UK of the former GRU Colonel Sergei Skripal, convicted in Russia for spying for the UK, and his daughter Yulia, who, according to the British side, were exposed to a nerve agent.

Later, London made a statement that the substance was allegedly being developed in Russia, and on this basis, accused Moscow of involvement in the incident. The Russian side categorically rejected all speculation on this score, stating that there were no programs for the development of such a substance in the USSR or Russia.
