'Fake news and nuclear weapons': what the French president spoke about in Congress

French President Emmanuel Macron 25 April acted before the US Congress.

The head of France expressed the hope that the United States "eventually acceded to the Paris Agreement" and that "Iran could never acquire nuclear weapons." The politician also supported Donald Trump in the fight against "fake news" and criticized the trade war between the United States and the European Union.

Turning to the American legislators, Macron recalled the tradition of friendship and alliance between the United States and France.

“We stood shoulder to shoulder in many battles,” said the French president.

In his opinion, there are special relations between the two countries and a general commitment to freedom and the protection of human rights, including racial and gender equality.

“The United States and France have created an indestructible alliance based on democratic values,” the French leader emphasized.

The French President recalled the Paris Climate Agreement, from which the United States out in 2017, initiated by Donald Trump, stressing the importance of this project.

“I am confident that the United States will eventually rejoin the Paris Agreement ... If we do not fight the destruction of biodiversity, we are destroying our planet. And we do not have planet B, ”said Macron.

He also spoke in favor of “free and equal trade” between the US and the EU.

The French president called for a fight with “fake news,” which he called a “growing virus,” and also reminded that the copyright on this expression belongs to the American leader, who was also present during the speech.

One of the key moments of Macron’s speech was a comment on the Iranian nuclear agreement. Earlier, Trump promised to withdraw from the agreements on Iran. But during the visit of French President to the United States Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump announced that they would discuss new agreements on the nuclear issue.

“Iran will never get a nuclear weapon. Not now, not in five years, not in ten, ”said Macron, calling for a standing ovation from the Congress.
