Facebook will soften the "real name policy"

Facebook said it would change its policy to ensure users only use their real names on their profiles.

A number of different groups and activists have previously contacted Facebook to demand that the company reconsider this strict policy requiring people to use only their own names.

On Tuesday, the company announced that it intends to check the new system, according to which users in the presence of any special circumstances can resort to using a pseudonym.

As the company clarifies, the softening of the “real name policy” is associated with the desire to help people who find themselves in difficult situations: for example, victims of domestic violence or those who are subjected to ridicule, bullying and bullying in society.

However, the company insists that users who do not have such special circumstances, still indicate their real name.

The company claims that when people use their real name, their actions and words on the social network have more weight than the words of the user hiding under a pseudonym.

In July, the media reported that the administration of the social network blocked the account of a German citizen due to the use of a pseudonym, and later indicated the real name of the account owner, without obtaining her consent.
