Jimmy Carter refuses to stay in hospital to 'spend the rest of his time with his family'

The 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, has decided to forego further treatment and "spend the rest of his time at home with his family," the Carter Center said. Writes about it The New York Times.

Carter, who at 98 is the longest-lived president in US history, has decided to forego further treatment and receive hospice care at his home in Georgia.

“After a series of short hospitalizations, President Carter has decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention,” the center said in a statement posted on Twitter. “He has the full support of his family and his medical team.” The Carter family requests privacy at this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many fans."

The center did not elaborate on what conditions prompted recent visits to the hospital or its decision to transfer to hospice. Carter has endured a number of health crises in recent years, including skin cancer that has spread to his liver and brain, and repeated falls.
