Donald Trump praises Nazarbayev for "economic miracle" in Kazakhstan

Elected US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with the head of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. Trump said that Kazakhstan during the years of Nazarbayev’s rule achieved outstanding success, reports CBS.

“The President-elect of the United States brought congratulations to the Head of State on the 25th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence. Trump emphasized that under the leadership of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the republic has achieved fantastic successes over the years of Independence, which can be called a miracle,” says a message published on the official website Administration of the President of Kazakhstan.

Apparently, in the conversation between Trump and Nazarbayev, the issue of relations with Russia was constantly raised. Interestingly, this is even emphasized in the official press release: “Nazarbayev drew Trump’s attention to 3 key areas in which Russian-American cooperation could be deepened,” the message says. It is understood that the discussion was about the fight against terrorism, resolving the Ukrainian crisis and strengthening global nuclear security.

At the same time, CBS recalls that Nazarbayev came to power back in 1990, and since then, the US State Department has repeatedly complained to the head of Kazakhstan about human rights violations in the country. It is about restricting freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

It should be noted that Nazarbayev was praised not so long ago by the current US President Barack Obama. During a meeting in South Korea in 2012, Obama said that he highly appreciates Nazarbayev’s decision to abandon nuclear weapons, reminds CBS.
